What are Kegels?

What Are Kegels

We’ve all been told for ages about the importance of physical activity for a physical and mental wellbeing. Maybe you spend hours at the gym per week to strengthen your arms, legs, and core, but what about your vagina and pubic region?

Kegels are exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, in turn supporting the pelvic area organs like your uterus, bowels, and bladder. Kegels can be done by both men and women,

though most media often stressed kegels for women only. Aside from the medical benefits, kegels can benefit your sex life too. In that regard, we’re going to specifically focus on women’s bodies.

Kegels can improve your sexual pleasure in a number of ways.

  1. They can help you learn to relax your vaginal muscles which can make sex easier if you struggle with painful intercourse.
  2. They can help to increase your vaginal lubrication, i.e. helping you get wetter, naturally.
  3. They increase your blood circulation, which gets you more aroused and allows sex to feel better.
  4. They can strengthen your orgasms and help you to have them more frequently - jackpot!

Doing kegel exercises is easy. All you need to do is contract the muscles of the pubic area, similar to you would if you needed to stop the flow of urine. You don’t actually want to practice kegels while you’re mid-stream though. Kegels can actually be done anywhere quickly and discreetly.

According to the Mayo Clinic, one good way to identify your pubic floor muscles and do kegels is to pretend you’re sitting on a marble and contract the muscles to lift it up off the floor. They recommend doing 2-3 sets per day of 10-15 reps.

When you’re ready to ‘level up,’ there are even tools that you can use to further increase your strength. Who’s to say superwoman like you can’t have a super-vagina?
